Last night, I spoke at the Hunt GOP Club...and everyone actually stayed in their seats!
I spoke about how Christian conservatives can influence the next twenty years. I tried to describe what I thought it was a Christian conservative like me has to offer my party, the Republican Party. I laid out five points, what I called character positions. Here is an excerpt (I post more over the next few days):
CHARACTER POSITION NUMBER ONE: Quit trying to split our leadership into born again and “moderate.”
This is a strange attitude I’ve encountered here in the state party ever since I moved back to Texas. For reasons I don’t understand, many of us who are motivated by faith have decided that not only must who we support for office and party leadership be born again, if they’re not born again, they are “moderate.” I know I’m guilty of this. Friends, this has got to stop. We all should have confidence in our leaders’ principles based on their commitment to our party platform, not our faith tradition.
I would add that we need to have those who are so called "Republicans" stop trying to remove the pro-life from the platform. Trey, this is why it matters if you are a true Christian or not. God tells us in the Bible that we must obey the laws of the land, but in order to do that they must reflect our values. We are a Christian nation. America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. The Declaration of Independence even states this "the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" Who is nature's God? Why of couse it is OUR GOD, Jesus Christ! " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." However, with all of that said, Jesus loves all people and wants them all to come into accountability. To me, a "Moderate" is one who does not hold to the principles of the Republican party platform. One who believes Open Borders are OK (Rick Perry); One who supports socialized medicine programs, like clean needle program or allowing young ladies to receive birth control without parental notification (Dr. Bob Duelle) ( This is NOT a Government Role BTW) ; One who believes in spending our money (Kay Bailey Hutchinson). These people call themselves Republicans but don't stand on what the party was intended to be. If they don't like the Party.THERE IS THE DOOR. Thanks for you post Trey.

Just to add to this..MY HIGHEST association is that of a Christian, and not a Republican! If this is my highest association, then who will I be held accountable to if I don't follow to the word of God? Jesus! I want true Christians to get involved in politics. Many call themselves Christian, but when the rubber meets the road, who do they fall prey too? See when I was in school we had a banner that stated, "Character is who you are when no one is looking" I want men and women of Character to be in office to do the right things with our money when NO one is looking.
